Sistahs Entertainment Review (Sistahs En Review) was born out of necessity: the need to add women’s voices to the cacophony in cyberspace broadcasting about television shows and movies, the need to share a Black woman’s perspective, and the need to give honest analysis about certain programs and how they are received in our community. During the summer of 2007, avid television viewers Sistah J and Sistah K had an idea to create their very own podcast and website. While grilling burgers outside in the Texas heat, their conversation turned to discussing several podcasts they both had recently heard. They lamented the fact that often actors of color are perceived by and talked about differently by podcast hosts who have no knowledge or experience within minority communities. This problem is especially noticeable with reality television shows! The Sistahs decided they needed to do something about it. Thus, S.E.R. was born for the express purpose of adding their voices to the chorus of podcasters out there today.
The Sistahs started their first podcast in July 2007 with the “Big Brother 8” reality show. They then included podcasts for the sci-fi series “The 4400”, and a review of several shows from the 2007 Fall television season. The Sistahs have consistently published podcasts covering every television season, for summer and fall. They currently have branched out by creating their “Sistah Speak” series, which includes podcasts focusing on True Blood, Game of Thrones, Big Brother, Fringe, etc.
